Little exists to treat the millions of infected children in low-income countries because so few children are affected in rich countries.
In conjunction with the School of Engineering, Geneva and the Connaught Clinic, Harare, Zimbabwe, Mintaka has been conducting a pilot study addressing a problem in the administration of conventional tritherapy drugs to children. Simple methods are being devised to fractionate adult anti-HIV drugs in ways that make it safe to administer them to children.
Properly carried out, the effects of tritherapy on children with HIV/AIDS are dramatic. This project (of which details are available on request) is temporarily suspended due to loss of contact with Harare.
